Areidy A. Beltran-Peña

Doctora Areidy Aracely Beltran-Peña is a Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability Dean's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University. Areidy holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management with a designated emphasis in Development Engineering. She also attained her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Earth Science (with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice) and a Master’s degree in Earth and Planetary Science all from the University of California, Berkeley. 

Her research focuses on the impacts of climate change on the Food-Energy-Water Nexus. She leverages integrated assessment and Earth system models to investigate the global and regional impacts of climate change on water resources available for natural and human consumption. Overall, her research sheds light on the intricate dynamics impacting water and food security amid a changing climate, highlighting the importance of both global and regional analyses. 

Before pursuing a Ph.D., Areidy worked in the environmental and geotechnical engineering consulting industry in the Bay Area for two years. She has participated in various programs around the world that have allowed her to expand her skillsets in data science, business fundamentals, and foreign languages. She is constantly looking for new opportunities to narrow any knowledge gaps and considers herself a life-long learner.

Areidy is the first in the history of her family to accomplish these educational milestones.  She is passionate about inspiring other students to pursue higher education through outreach initiatives, including invited talks, active mentoring, and research. Her number one message to them is “Si se puede!” – encouraging them to believe in themselves and reach for the stars.
